How to get better sleep

Not sleeping well? Not waking up feeling refreshed?

The benefits of good sleep are that it improves brain performance, our mood and our physical health.

Sleep deprivation can cause really harmful long-term damage to our bodies, so starting out in your younger years will make your older self, thank you.

Let’s look at some stuff you could be doing to help you get a good night’s sleep:

  • We all want to scroll through yet another reel from our favourite Tik Tocker but seriously, the blue light thing on your phone is real, it stimulates your brain so you do need to put your phone on Do Not Disturb mode, set it aside preferably not close to your bed, at least 1 hour before bedtime and allow your brain to get the signal you are ready to sleep.

  • Make sure your room isn’t too cluttered. A cluttered room makes for a cluttered mind.

  • Make sure your room is dark and cool.

  • Routine. Try and go to bed and get up at the same time every day.

  • Finally, if you can’t get to sleep, try not to give yourself a hard time about it. Try reading or some calming colouring in until you feel sleepy and then try getting to sleep again.
