6 ways you could improve Brain Health

Move your Body daily!

Exercise can boost your mood, improve focus and concentration. It also promotes neurogenesis which is the growth of new brain cells. This is so important for improving cognitive function, which supports the way you think, process information and remember things.

Challenge yourself everyday

Getting out of your comfort zone can help you get out of your boxed way of thinking and being. It can be as simple as smiling or making eye contact with a stranger.

This challenges the brain and sharpens thinking skills as well as building cognitive reserves. It is pretty cool as this maps new connections between brain cells and can help you build confidence and self-esteem.

Spend time socializing with people you love and that light you up

Our basic need for belonging and connection are so important for our survival but it supports brain health too. Having a social life and support system gives us purpose and support. It also stimulates the brain and challenges the processing of information as you are interacting with people and your brain is developing your emotional intelligence.

Pay attention to what see and do daily

Take a pause to breathe each day to reflect on what you are taking in, it could be what you are eating, what you are reading or what you’re listening to. If you are always watching or listening to negative news it can affect where our focus goes and blind us to the positive things in our life. Therefore, practicing gratitude, even the smallest thing like a freshly made and warm bed or laughter with your mates. This is all helping your brain.

Create a routine

Having a routine can help your mental health. It helps to regulate what is called your circadian rhythm which balances your mood and makes us feel more grounded and productive. It also helps in decision making and lessening your stress and feeling of being overwhelmed.

Quality Sleep

Your brain needs at least 7-9 hours a night to keep your brain working effectively. It is the most important thing to reset and heal your brain. It is a healthy amount of sleep that supports what is call brain plasticity or your brain’s ability to take in information and adapt to how it is processed.
