Why it’s important to #BeKind – and how you can help others
Mental health and wellbeing are receiving ever-increasing attention in the media lately, and there are a number of different campaigns being promoted by various different organisations. One that really resonated with us was the #BeKind movement. Put bluntly, why can’t we all be just a little kinder to others?
As humans, in our busy lives, we’re sometimes guilty of lacking a little in our considerations of the feelings of others. Whether it’s something deemed to be relatively minor like muttering under our breath at the driver in front who’s “going too slow”, or saying something negative about a person behind their back, there’s no arguing that this behaviour doesn’t benefit anyone and could have a detrimental impact on the individual at the receiving end.
That driver could have had some unfortunate news that day and is shaken up a little; the person you’re criticising is perhaps going through a difficult time and is struggling to handle it. Wouldn’t it be a better use of our time and a far better outcome if we reached out to people that may be struggling instead?
The simplest way sounds silly, but it’s just to #BeKind. Try to catch negative thoughts before they manifest, and do something positive. Check in on someone you haven’t spoken to for a while. Reach out to that colleague that’s been a little bit quiet lately and ask them if they’re okay. You don’t have to put people on the spot; simply making normal conversation can often be a big help.
Some people can be quite isolated and feel like nobody cares about them at times. Wouldn’t it be a great feeling to know – or at least feel like – you may have helped someone; even made their day.
Whether you’re at school, a sports club, or simply at your place of work, do something amazing today: #BeKind and ask someone else how they’re doing. If everyone did this a little more, the world would be a much better place.
